About Kristin

Kristin McIlwain’s law practice focuses primarily on civil litigation, assisting clients in matters involving construction law, mechanic’s liens, real estate disputes, landlord-tenant issues, riparian rights, lake law, and personal injury.  In addition to Kristin’s litigation practice, she also represents individuals in criminal matters and those seeking to expunge arrest and/or conviction records. Kristin is experienced in the courtroom and has participated in both felony and misdemeanor jury trials. Prior to joining this firm, Kristin represented the State of Indiana at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.  Kristin then worked as a criminal defense attorney for David R. Hennessy.  In both capacities, Kristin handled numerous criminal cases where she became well versed in search and seizure law.

Kristin graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Legal Studies with a focus on public law. Kristin then obtained her law degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.  While in law school, Kristin was named to the Order of the Barristers in the intramural moot court competition.  She also served as a Student Ambassador, Co-Chair for the Animal Law Society and was recognized for her pro-bono work.

In addition to the practice of law, Kristin serves as a board member for an animal rescue organization.  She also represents the 7th congressional district as a volunteer district leader for The Humane Society of the United States where she advocates for animal welfare legislation.  Kristin is a member of both the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association.

Kristin is admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
